Plan a Golf Trip to Cabot Cape Breton in 9 Easy Steps

When you plan a golf trip to Cabot Cape Breton, it’s usually one of two types:

  1. Standard – You and one other person travel together and play as much golf as possible.  You tend to behave yourselves as the focus is on golf.  You play 36 a day and hit multiple courses.
  2. A Buddies Trip – You and a group of friends travel to play golf and hang out.  There is very little behaving as the focus is on the entire experience.  You play 18-27 holes a day, usually hungover.

The planning of that second trip can seem overwhelming; Luckily, we are here to make it easy for you.  This article includes everything you need to plan a golf trip to Cabot Cape Breton, with your buddies.

1. Decide When to Go

The season at Cabot runs from mid-May to late October.  The prices and the weather vary significantly based on which part of the season you are traveling in.  Reading our article “The Best Times to Visit Cabot Cape Breton” will help you decide the best time for your group

2. Find Accommodations

You need to ensure there is a place that can host your whole group.  We suggest looking for somewhere that can sleep up to eight comfortably.  We also recommend staying off the resort as you will achieve the experience you are looking for in a place with your own space to hang out.

There are multiple listings available on Airbnb and VRBO when you search Inverness, Nova Scotia; however, there is no better place for a buddies trip than Cabot Cottage.

3. Search Availability of Flights and Transportation

Aside from the golf and the accommodations, getting there is going to be the other major factor in the cost of the trip.  A quick search to see the cost of flights and rental cars or shuttles will help you create the budget. For help with this, check out our article on “How to Get to Cabot Cape Breton.”

4. Check the Cost of Rounds

A round at Cabot varies depending on the part of the season you are visiting in.  Below are the rates for 2023.

5. Total Your Costs

Here is where you collect all the information you have already gathered to get your cost per person for the trip. You’ll first need to decide on the number of nights you wish to stay.  In general, 4 nights will keep the budget and time off from work within reason while still allowing ample time for golf and other shenanigans.

Get the total for all the nights in the accommodation, including service and cleaning fees and divide it by eight. Get the total for the transportation to and from the airport and divide it by eight.  Add those two numbers together.

Add the cost of one round for every day you are there (other than travel days.  Then add the cost of a return flight.  The total is your budget per person, not including food and booze.

6. Pitch Your Friends

Send an email or drop a note in your group chat that you have organized the trip.  Sell it a little by including a link to the accommodation (if you chose Cabot Cottage, tell them about the garage).

Let them know:

  • The dates
  • The price per person
  • What is included

Tell them the first 7 people to send you money are in.  The amount of money you collect should be enough to cover the cost of the deposit on the accommodation.

7. Book Your Rounds

Tee times are released by Cabot thirty days in advance.  To get the rounds you want, you should book as soon as they are available.   You can fill out a request form on their website, but we prefer to call them directly at 1-855-660-6243.  You’ll need to call them a few days in a row, as times are released for each day you are there.

Once your rounds are booked, you should each consider booking a caddie.  The caddies at Cabot are top notch and will make your experience more special, and your round lower.

8. Collect More Money

Closer to your trip, collect the rest of the accommodation fees from everyone so you can pay for that in full.  We recommend you also collect for the transportation.  Even though you won’t be charged for that until you return the cars, it’s better to have that money upfront from everyone.

9. Organize Food and Booze

There are a ton of great places to eat and drink in Inverness. However, you are also likely going to want to hang out at your own place too. At a minimum, we suggest getting everyone to pitch towards some breakfast and snack food.

If someone is willing to take on organizing and cooking a meal, let them, you’ve done enough!  When you get into town, half of you should hit the grocery store, while the other half goes to the NSLC.  That way, once you arrive at your place, you can enjoy it immediately!
