Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs are two of the best golf courses in the entire world and the resort in Inverness, NS is a haven for golfers. If there’s one knock on Cabot, it is that the resort’s remote location that can make getting there difficult.
In this article, we give you all the options on how to get to Cabot Cape Breton so you can pick the best combination for your group size and budget and relax knowing that you’re going to arrive (and depart) safely & easily.
There are two airports in relative proximity to Cabot:
Halifax – Stanfield International Airport – Approximately 3.5 Hours From Cabot
Sydney – J.A. Douglass McCurdy Airport – Approximately 2 Hours From Cabot
There is also a small private airport in Port Hawkesbury – Allan J Airport. This is an option for the private jet set. Private flights and transfers can be booked through Celtic Air
If you’re arriving from Europe or the United States, you will likely connect in Toronto or Montreal before continuing on to either Halifax or Sydney. However, there are a few direct flights into Halifax in the summer via American Airlines & Air Canada from international destinations.
Flying into Sydney will require you to fly Westjet or Air Canada as they are the only airlines serving that airport.
There are pros & cons to flying into Halifax vs Syndey. For example, it’s a shorter drive from Sydney to Inverness however there are more limited flights there so if your schedule is tight it may not be an option. The drive itself is scenic as it travels along the Cabot Trail. Driving at night or in poor weather conditions will increase the travel time though as the road twists down the northwest coast of Cape Breton and through several small towns & villages.
Overall, although the drive from the airport is longer, Halifax is a much more suitable arrival point in our opinion. The drive is mainly on divided highway with higher speed limits. The flight schedule is also more accommodating and there are more options for ground transportation. Which brings us to…
Once you hit the ground in Nova Scotia, your travel isn’t finished. Cabot Cape Breton is located on the west side of Cape Breton Island a few hours away. Depending on the size of your group and the budget you’re working with there are a number of options.
Option #1 – Rent A Car
This option is great for smaller groups of 4 or less. Car rental agencies that you can book with include:

There are a couple of drawbacks if you’re considering a rental car to get to Cabot Cape Breton:
Having a rental car can be handy but you might not want to pay to have the car sit there while you’re enjoying world-class golf. Especially if the rates are high.
Book A Resort Transfer With Cabot Directly
If you’re staying on property at Cabot Resort you can request to book one of their private airport transfers. The rate is $900 each way for an 11 person bus that you must book exclusively. These buses book up quickly in peak season and aren’t necessarily worth it for smaller (4 golfers or less) groups.
Book A Private Shuttle
There are some other options for private transfers if you’re unable to book directly with Cabot:
Breton Air provides private helicopter tours & charters and if your budget allows, is a great way to arrive to Cabot Resort.
